Bangkok's rooftop bar scene is legendary — but why visit for a cocktail when you can stay for the night? The city's best luxury hotels compete fiercely on views, and the result is some of the most spectacular urban hotel experiences in the world.
The Contenders
Rosewood Bangkok — Score: 93
The newest luxury addition to Bangkok's skyline, Rosewood occupies a 30-storey tower in Ploenchit. The rooms from the 20th floor up offer uninterrupted views of the Lumpini Park canopy against the city skyline. The design is contemporary Thai with subtle references to local craft traditions.
The standout: Lakorn Dining & Bar on the 6th floor has an outdoor terrace surrounded by vertical gardens that feels like dining in a treehouse above the city.
The Siam — Score: 91
Not a tower hotel — The Siam is a riverside property where the views are horizontal rather than vertical. Set along the Chao Phraya River, this Art Deco boutique hotel offers a completely different perspective of Bangkok. Watch longtail boats and river barges from your terrace while the city hums in the background.
The standout: The private pool villas have unobstructed river views and direct access to the hotel's riverside infinity pool.
Banyan Tree Bangkok — Score: 88
One of Bangkok's original rooftop experiences. Vertigo and Moon Bar on the 61st floor have been drawing visitors since 2001, and they still deliver. The rooms on higher floors offer panoramic views that stretch to the horizon on clear days.
The standout: The duplex suites have two-storey windows that frame the city like art installations.
SO/ Bangkok — Score: 86
Overlooking Lumpini Park from every room, SO/ brings a more playful energy than its competitors. The design is bold and contemporary — each floor was designed by a different local artist. Rooms facing south offer park views that make you forget you're in one of Asia's biggest cities.
The standout: The Park Society rooftop bar has a swimming pool and some of the best sunset views in the city.
Practical Tips
Best Floor to Request
Most Bangkok luxury hotels have "premium" and "standard" city view rooms. The premium rooms are typically on floors 20+. The price difference is usually $30-50/night — worth it for a multi-night stay.
Haze Season
Bangkok's air quality dips between January and March (burning season in northern Thailand). Views can be hazy during this period. For the crispest skyline photos, visit in November-December or June-July.
Getting Around
All four hotels listed above have excellent BTS Skytrain access except The Siam, which compensates with a private boat shuttle to Saphan Taksin pier. For a rooftop-focused trip, staying near the Ploenchit or Chidlom BTS stations gives you the best combination of views and convenience.
Price Comparison
Bangkok hotel rates vary significantly by platform. During our last check, Rosewood Bangkok was $340/night on Booking.com but $295/night on Agoda. That's a $45/night difference for the exact same room. Always compare.
